The building strikes a thoughtful balance between heritage and modernity, allowing the historic façade to ground the precinct while the renewed interior brings clarity and scale. Its restrained presence gives Pitt Street Mall a sense of continuity rather than spectacle.

Overview
The redevelopment of the Glasshouse Arcade at 150 Pitt Street, anchored by Swedish fashion house H&M, demonstrated how large-scale contemporary retail can coexist with careful heritage restoration. While the $30 million project transformed the interior arcade into a three-level, 5,000-square-metre flagship store in one of the world’s most expensive shopping strips, equal attention was given to the building’s historic façade. Our specialist carpentry works focused on the restoration and rehabilitation of the original façade windows—retaining their proportions, profiles, and craftsmanship while upgrading performance and longevity. These heritage staple elements now continue to define the building’s identity on Pitt Street Mall, ensuring the architectural character of the former Glasshouse Arcade was preserved even as it entered a new commercial chapter.
