Spicers Potts Point is a masterful union of 19th-century elegance and contemporary refinement, offering a stay that feels both storied and effortlessly modern.

Overview
Taylor’s was proud to be engaged in the delicate restoration and transformation of Spicers Potts Point, a collection of three terrace houses dating back to 1873. Our team was responsible for the craftsmanship of the building’s floors, ceilings, facades, and bespoke timber elements, ensuring that the property’s historical character was preserved while seamlessly integrating contemporary features.
The project presented significant challenges, with heritage-listed buildings that had been compromised by previous unsympathetic additions and deterioration of the original fabric. Innovative solutions were required to address fire separation, acoustic performance, and accessibility—all while maintaining the integrity of the 19th-century architecture.
Our work involved stripping back the buildings to reveal their original heritage beauty, restoring detailed cornices, high ceilings, bay windows, and other period features, and carefully blending these with the new three-storey rear extension. This addition provided expansive, accessible rooms, a new reception bar, and a garden courtyard with a rooftop green space that enhances privacy and brings natural elements into the urban environment.
Every room now showcases our attention to detail, with bespoke joinery and finishes that complement the soft lighting, natural fabrics, and modern comforts, including air conditioning. The overall result is a harmonious balance between historic elegance and contemporary luxury, allowing guests to experience the rich history of Potts Point while enjoying a boutique hotel retreat at the heart of Sydney.
Taylor’s contribution to Spicers Potts Point reflects the skill, dedication, and precision of our team, and stands as a testament to the value of thoughtful heritage carpentry in creating modern, high-end hospitality spaces.
